RRC Regulatory Webinars

The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) conducts regulatory webinars on a variety of oil and gas topics. These webinars are conducted via Zoom and are simulcast by Texas Admin Monitor. We encourage all who want to learn more about a particular topic to login to these webinars. There is also an opportunity to ask questions for more clarification.

Economic Impact of the Permian Basin

The year 2020 has brought sudden unexpected challenges to Texas and to the oil and gas industry. Economic caution from the spread of a new coronavirus, coupled with a massive temporary glut of oil on world markets has put the Texas Miracle on hold, and much of the oil and gas industry with it. The story of Texas oil and gas has yet to be written for 2020. The chapters of the recent past have been about the Permian Basin, as will those of our eventual recovery. In the linked report, the Texas Taxpayers and Research Association (TTARA) Research Foundation reviews the contributions of the oil and gas industry to state and local finances in Texas over the past five years, and, more specifically, the ascendancy of the Permian Basin.

Economic Impact of Oil and Gas in Texas

The oil and gas industry directly provides for over 400,000 jobs in Texas and paid over $98.9 billion in Texas state and local taxes and royalties from 2007 through 2015. The taxes paid go toward funding Texas schools, textbooks, Medicaid and children’s health insurance programs, child protective services, roads and first responders such as a police and firefighters. Recommended Lighting Practices

The recommended lighting practices located below are the result of a collaborative effort between the members of the Permian Basin Petroleum Association (PBPA), headquartered in Midland, Texas, The University of Texas McDonald Observatory, located in Ft. Davis, Texas, and other members of the oil and gas industry. The PBPA strongly supports the McDonald Observatory and the endeavors it strives to accomplish. Knowing that dark skies are vital to those endeavors, the PBPA and the McDonald Observatory offer the included recommendations to accomplish just that. These recommendations are targeted at operations in the Texas Counties of Brewster, Culberson, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis, Pecos, Presidio, and Reeves. Learn More ...
